Employment Pass, PR, and the real picture
It helps to be clear about how people actually live here, because it shapes what a family is planning for. Many Indian professionals are in Singapore on an Employment Pass, the work pass for foreign professionals administered by the Ministry of Manpower. It is tied to an employer and to income and qualification thresholds, which means a career change or a downturn can change a family’s footing. Permanent residence, administered by the Immigration and Checkpoints Authority, is a different and more settled status, and citizenship is different again. A match that assumes everyone is equally rooted misses the reality of a lot of families here.
