One state, many regions
Maharashtra is the second most populous state in India, with about 112 million people at the 2011 Census, and it is far too varied to treat as a single matchmaking market. A family in coastal Ratnagiri, a family in the sugar belt of Kolhapur, a family in Nagpur in the eastern Vidarbha plains, and a family in Mumbai’s high-rise suburbs share a language and a state, but their world of relatives, customs, and expectations can look very different. This page is about the state as a whole, and how a match can be found across it, rather than about any one city.
Marathi is the official language and the common thread, but the geography sorts the state into distinct regions: the Konkan coast, Western Maharashtra or the Desh, Vidarbha in the east, Marathwada in the centre, and Khandesh to the north. Serious families usually want a match who understands their region, their family’s community identity, and their customs, and only then look at where the person actually lives. That is the brief Evara has worked to for families since 2009.
The real difficulty across a state this large is not the number of profiles. It is reach with judgement: knowing the regions well enough to shortlist thoughtfully, verifying who each family really is, and coordinating meetings across long distances without wasting anyone’s time. That is the work we do.
Built for a state-wide search
Matching across Maharashtra means holding region, community, and language together while planning around real distances. Our matchmaking is designed for exactly that.
We match with the Konkan, Western Maharashtra, Vidarbha, Marathwada, and Khandesh in mind, because a family’s region shapes its relatives, customs, and expectations as much as its city does.
Every profile is reviewed by our team and must be complete before it can browse or be browsed. On personalised plans a dedicated matchmaker curates each introduction.
We match within Marathi communities such as Maratha, Deshastha, Chitpavan, Karhade, and CKP, and across the Gujarati, Marwari, Sindhi, and South Indian families settled in the state, as you prefer.
When two families sit hundreds of kilometres apart, we start with video introductions so both sides can gauge compatibility before anyone travels between cities.
Regional and community networks in Maharashtra are close and word travels fast. Your details are shared only with your explicit approval, and never listed publicly.
We plan meetings around long journeys, festivals such as Ganesh Chaturthi, and trips home, so a first meeting is arranged only once both families are genuinely interested.
How Maharashtra is really laid out
The Konkan is the narrow coastal strip along the Arabian Sea, and it holds Mumbai, the state capital and the financial capital of India, home to the Reserve Bank of India, the Bombay Stock Exchange, and the National Stock Exchange. Beyond the metropolis, the coast runs south through Raigad, Ratnagiri, and Sindhudurg, with long-settled families and strong ties to communities such as the Gaud Saraswat and Chitpavan Brahmins whose roots lie along this coast.
Western Maharashtra, the Desh, sits on the Deccan plateau above the Western Ghats and centres on Pune, historically the seat of the Peshwas of the Maratha Empire and today a major education and information technology city. The sugar-and-agriculture belt of Kolhapur, Satara, Sangli, and Solapur, once part of the Maratha heartland, carries deep Maratha and Brahmin family networks. To the east lies Vidarbha, centred on Nagpur, the second capital of the state and the seat of the legislature’s winter session, near the Zero Mile Stone that marks the geographic centre of India, with Amravati as its other main city.
Marathwada, in the centre, is anchored by Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, the city renamed from Aurangabad by the state government in 2023 and the gateway to the Ajanta and Ellora caves. North Maharashtra and Khandesh add Nashik, on the Godavari and one of the four Kumbh Mela cities, along with Jalgaon and Dhule. Each region has its own festivals, dialect of Marathi, and marriage customs, and a match that respects those tends to hold.
The people of Maharashtra
Marathi families across the state carry distinct community identities that are matters of history and belonging, not of rank. The Maratha community is large and spread across the Desh and Marathwada. Maharashtrian Brahmin families include the Deshastha of the plateau, the Chitpavan or Konkanastha of the coast, and the Karhade, while the Chandraseniya Kayastha Prabhu, or CKP, and the Gaud Saraswat Brahmins each have their own traditions. For many families sub-community and kul or family lineage matter in a match, and we treat them as identity to be understood, never as a measure of worth. No family is above or below another.
Maharashtra is also home to communities who have lived here for generations without Marathi as a mother tongue. Mumbai and Pune have large Gujarati, Marwari, Jain, Sindhi, and South Indian populations, alongside Parsi, Bohra, and other long-settled groups, many of whom want a match who shares both their community and a life in the state. We match within any of these communities and across them when a family is open to it, and we can widen a search to a home region elsewhere in India where that matters.
Finding a match across the state
A state-wide search only works if the shortlisting is done with care. We begin with a one-on-one profiling conversation rather than a form, and we learn your family’s community and sub-community, your region and dialect, dietary and lifestyle preferences, how far you are willing to look, and the intangibles that decide compatibility for you. A family that wants a match within Pune has a different brief from one open to the whole of Western Maharashtra, or to Marathi families in Mumbai, Nagpur, and Nashik alike, and we plan for that from the start.
From there a dedicated matchmaker presents a small number of curated introductions, each with our reasoning for why this specific family could suit yours. Because Maharashtra is large, many good matches cross a regional or city line, so we start with video introductions and only arrange travel once both families are genuinely interested. When a meeting is worthwhile we coordinate the timing, the venue, and the follow-up, often around festivals and school or work calendars. Nothing is automated, and nothing is left to a raw database.
Maharashtra Matrimony FAQs
Do you cover the whole of Maharashtra or only Mumbai and Pune?+
The whole state. We match families across the Konkan coast, Western Maharashtra, Vidarbha, Marathwada, and Khandesh, including Mumbai, Pune, Nagpur, Nashik, Kolhapur, Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, and smaller towns. Mumbai and Pune have their own dedicated hubs, and we search state-wide for families who are open to it.
Can you match within a specific Marathi community or sub-community?+
Yes. We match within communities such as Maratha, Deshastha, Chitpavan, Karhade, CKP, and Gaud Saraswat, and we treat sub-community, gotra, and family lineage as matters of identity to understand, never of rank. We can also widen the search across communities if your family is open to it.
We are a Gujarati or Marwari family settled in Mumbai. Can you help?+
Yes. Maharashtra is home to large Gujarati, Marwari, Jain, Sindhi, and South Indian populations, especially in Mumbai and Pune. We match within any of these communities within the state, and can widen a search to your home region elsewhere in India where that matters to you.
How do family meetings work across such long distances?+
We start with video introductions so both families can gauge compatibility before anyone travels between cities. When a meeting is genuinely worthwhile, we coordinate the timing and a venue that works for both sides, often planned around festivals such as Ganesh Chaturthi or trips home.
We live in Vidarbha or Marathwada. Are there enough matches for us?+
Yes. Because we search across the whole state rather than one city, families in Nagpur, Amravati, Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, and the surrounding regions have real reach. Many strong matches cross a regional line, and video introductions make an initial conversation easy regardless of distance.
Do you have an office in Maharashtra?+
Our matchmaking is coordinated centrally and we serve Maharashtra families through video introductions and meetings arranged at a venue convenient for both families. Where a family lives shapes the logistics of meeting, not whether we can help you across the state.
